Connect ZiRocks to Usenet: SABnzbd + Sonarr + Radarr

Follow these simple steps to connect your ZiRocks Home Media Server to your Usenet provider and media indexers.

Enter Your Usenet Login in SABnzbd

  1. Locate your Usenet credentials:
    • Username: (from your Usenet provider)
    • Password: (from your Usenet provider)
    • Server (Host): e.g., news.newshosting.com
    • Port: 563 (SSL enabled)
    • Connections: 20–100 (depending on your plan)
  2. Access SABnzbd: open http://zirocks.local:8080 in your browser → go to Config → Servers.
  3. Add your Usenet provider server:
    • Host: news.provider.com
    • Port: 563
    • Enable SSL: Yes
    • Username / Password: enter your credentials
    • Connections: 20 to start
    Click Test Server → should show “Connection successful.”
  4. Set SABnzbd Categories under Config → Categories:
    • tv → Folder: /home/zirocks/media/TV
    • movies → Folder: /home/zirocks/media/Movies
  5. Copy your SABnzbd API key (found in Config → General) — you’ll need it in Sonarr and Radarr.

Enter Your Indexer Login in Sonarr & Radarr

Indexers act as search engines for Usenet. You’ll need an API key from one or more indexers like NZBGeek or NZBFinder.

  1. Join an indexer (e.g., NZBFinder, NZBGeek, NZBPlanet). Get your API Key from your indexer account page.
  2. Open Sonarr at http://zirocks.local:8989 → go to Settings → Indexers → + → Newznab. Fill in:
    • Name: e.g. NZBGeek
    • URL: https://api.nzbgeek.info/
    • API Key: paste yours here
    • Categories: 5000,5030,5040 (TV)
    Click Test → then Save.
  3. Open Radarr at http://zirocks.local:7878 → go to Settings → Indexers → + → Newznab. Fill in:
    • Name: e.g. NZBFinder
    • URL: https://nzbfinder.ws/api
    • API Key: paste yours here
    • Categories: 2000,2010,2020 (Movies)
    Click Test → then Save.
  4. Link Sonarr & Radarr to SABnzbd Go to Settings → Download Clients → + → SABnzbd Fill in:
    • Host: http://zirocks.local
    • Port: 8080
    • API Key: from SABnzbd
    • Category: tv (Sonarr) or movies (Radarr)
    Click Test → expect “Success!” → Save.
  5. Set Root Folders
    • In Sonarr: /home/zirocks/media/TV
    • In Radarr: /home/zirocks/media/Movies
    These folders are preconfigured in the ZiRocks Plex setup.
  6. Test your full setup: Add a TV show or movie → click Search → check SABnzbd’s queue at http://zirocks.local:8080 → once downloaded, Plex should detect it automatically.
